Weekend Festivites

Since we moved back to the East Coast from Phoenix, we have found our weekend calendar to be quite packed.  Family events and parties, wedding related tasks and very little "staying at home" time.  We are grateful for our families and being as close to them as we are but sometimes it takes a girl's breath away looking at the calendar. AND we don't even have kids yet!!!

This past weekend was another adventure this time up to the City of Brotherly Love for our nephew's 5th birthday party.  It was a blast to see everyone and we had some down time with DF's parents on Saturday night just grilling out and sitting in the backyard.  Having lived away from them for about 7-8 months, you do sometimes miss those kind of evenings.

Sunday was the birthday bonanza, filled with grilled foods (my favorite!), family, friends and one happy 5 year old! :) When I first started dating the DF, his nephew wasn't too sure about me.  I was just this strange woman attached to his Uncle.  Since we've been together for over 2 years now, I've progressed to Aunt Kristen (Woo! My brother's only 12 so I wasn't going to be an Aunt for a looooong time).  I even got to give the birthday boy a kiss on his cheek!!

DF's sister gave birth a few weeks ago and now we have another niece to spoil rotten and snuggle with.  Let me tell you - she's adorable!  A little peanut with a head of dark hair.

Home & Family

The Big Man and I are huge family people.  We love our families very much.  Yes, they drive us crazy but after living in Arizona - 2300 miles from them - we really do appreciate being within a short drive to them.

Last weekend we went to my family's house to watch my brother play Little League.  It's his last year of Little League and it was Opening Day.  I was beyond excited to see him play and be the big sister cheering from the sidelines.  It was a chilly day but the sun stayed out just long enough for us to be able to see his game.

If you haven't seen me in action on the sidelines, I am worse than our parents.  I scream, yell (appropriately) and cheer him on as loudly as possible.  I bite my nails and hide my eyes in the Big Man when I can't bear to watch a play. I get so engrossed in the game and so angry when there bad sportsmanship or bad umpire-ing. Last weekend was no exception.  I sulked, I yelled, and I cheered as loudly as possible.  I figure one day he may not want me to come to his games so I'm taking advantage of it as I can.

It also happened to come about that my brother has a science fair project to complete.  I was an A student and he is an A student.  Our parents expect that we work our hardest and put the best foot forward.

The brother, with Mom and Dad's help, conducted the experiment but the board to present it was sorely lacking.  Read: there was nothing but a board when I saw it the first time

To the rescue......Wonderful Sister and Super (future) Brother-in-law.....

We swooped in to save the day...or at least the project board.  The Big Man and I worked with my brother to cut out pictures of onions (his project's subject), glued more paper than we care to think of and made sure to spell check every last word.

Voting took place on Monday and his board was chosen for a prize!!!!!  We won't find out what place until Thursday night at a special ceremony but it sure is a good feeling that we did good!

I must say...that's a pretty awesome science board...
